Local Profile of the Week

Name: Pete Nelson
Where did you grow up: Princeton, N.J. exit 9 on the Turnpike
How long have you lived in Whatcom County: A little more than 3 years
Favorite activity in Whatcom County: Hiking with my family. I love Arroyo Park in South Bellingham and the entire Chuckanut Trail and Park area.
Favorite places to eat: For breakfast I like the Little Cheerful downtown, Avenue Bread has great soups and sandwiches, and the Fino is my gourmet food and wine place.
Last community event attended: I go to the Bellingham Farmers Market often and love the Whatcom Symphony (truly a community treasure).
Last movie seen: I went to Casino Royale. Best James Bond Ever.
Favorite musical artist: I’m into female vocalists right now-like Michelle Branch and Joan Osborne.
Recommended reading: How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
Favorite Non-Profit Organizations: I think the Whatcom Symphony is an important cultural component that our community needs to nurture as classical music is such a foundation to all music and important for our children to hear and appreciate. Makes them smarter too. Slum Doctors is also an incredible program. They literally take money and supplies from Bellingham and bring it directly to the schools in Africa.
Best local shopping: Can spend hours in Village Books and Michael’s has an incredible used book selection, Gary’s downtown Bellingham for clothing, Hardware Sales for hardware, The New Toy Garden, Fountain Drug and Yeager’s for toys (I have four kids, what can I say?)
Fondest Memory: Going to Game 6 of the 1977 World Series with my Dad and watching Reggie Jackson hit three home runs against the Dodgers.
