Director Jen Mallett

My nearly 9 year old daughter recently told me that she's so glad I'm not like a lot of other grown ups...."you're still so silly mom!"   I not only believe in the Music Together® philosophy that ALL children are musical, I also believe that it's vital for both their musical development and personal development that we as adults relax and get down on the floor to play with our children. The sillier the better!

I became involved with Music Together when my daughter was just 18 months old. As a Music Together parent I learned to let go of my inhibitions about my singing voice and just jump in and have fun with my daughter.  Enrolling her in a Music Together program was one of the best decisions I ever made. After moving to Bellingham in 2003 and getting involved with the 0-5 crowd through my Sign-by-Sign Program infant sign language buisiness, I saw a need for a Music Together program in B'ham. So Music Together by the Bay was born and now after the birth of my second child and three years later, we are excitedly meeting more parents and caregivers and sharing the gift of family music.   I am so grateful to have the opportunity to do work that fills me up in so many ways.  It is one of my greatest joys to teach this program.

Introducing Teacher Stacy Olver

Stacy Olver, a dedicated and enthusiastic parent, brings a variety of experience to Music Together by the Bay. Singing, dancing, and listening to music of all kinds is part of daily life for Naomi and Mackenzie, Stacy’s daughters. She has interacted with children of all ages through Campfire , day and summer camp programs, YMCA programs, and a weekly playgroup for infants and toddlers. She credits her music appreciation to immersion at home, junior high and high school band (7+ years with the clarinet), and singing in many situations besides in the shower. Stacy’s education in speech pathology and audiology has developed keen observation skills when working with children as well. A passion for theater improvisation and play enhances her willingness and delight to interact with children and parents. Stacy attended national Music Together training August, 2006.

Stacy is also now wearing another hat for Music Together by the Bay as our Program Assistant. Her navigational skills as a ships captain are being well used to help support our programs and help us meet the needs of our participants. .

Introducing Teacher Robin Brown:

Robin Brown has studied geology, worked in environmental science, and taught math while living in Africa.  She enjoys playing fiddle and dancing at contra dances, has trained as a Suzuki violin teacher, and has taught private violin lessons privately and at a middle school.  She loves dancing and, for fun and relaxation, has taken classes in dance including African, ballroom, swing, Latin and tango.   She also loves to garden and spend time outdoors.  She became involved in Music Together as a parent when her son was an infant.

Prior to the birth of her son, friends got together to make her family a tape of each one of them singing their favorite lullaby.  She spent the first few months postpartum rocking her son while learning these melodies and enjoying the sounds of her friends’ voices drifting through the house.  Then she brought her infant son to a Music Together and learned to play through music and words.  She really enjoyed the class and the camaraderie that it brought.  She stopped worrying about how her voice sounded and started singing as much as possible with her young son.  As her son grew, people at the grocery store would stop the pair and comment about her son’s voice because he would sing loudly about the bananas and spinach, etc.  Her family now enjoys playing with words in songs as they take walks and long car trips.

She has found much joy in playing music with her friends and family and loves sharing the joy with families in Music Together classes.  She plays violin and guitar in her classes and also does some signing based on American Sign Language.
