Bellingham’s La Bella Strada Arts Festival will feature more than 85 accomplished local and regional artist vendors, street painting, children’s activities, food, and live entertainment for two days--August 12 and 13, 2006 in Downtown Bellingham.
The event is free to attend.

La Bella Strada Art and the Chalk Artfest will recognize the high level of accomplishment by local and regional artists, and pay tribute to the history and tradition of street painting. Over 200 professional and budding artists of all ages will decorate the sidewalks of Downtown Bellingham with brightly painted chalk art “masterpieces.”
Street painting has a long tradition in cities in Western Europe starting in Italy in the 16th century. These artists are known as "madonnari" or "Madonna painters" because they reproduced icons of the Madonna. The artists’ works are known as “street paintings,” often earning a fine art reputation.
